Learn what supplements are, how they're regulated, and why we can't make disease claims
Dietary supplements are products intended to supplement the diet, containing dietary ingredients such as vitamins, minerals, herbs, or other botanicals. They are regulated by the FDA under the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act (DSHEA) of 1994. Importantly, supplements are NOT drugs—they cannot claim to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent disease.
Disease claims require FDA approval as medications, which involves extensive clinical trials costing millions of dollars. Our botanical products are dietary supplements, not drugs. Making disease claims without FDA approval is illegal and can result in product seizure, fines, and criminal prosecution.
As Botanical Story Tellers, we are wellness educators, not medical advisors. We share personal experiences, traditional knowledge, and nutritional information—but we never diagnose conditions, prescribe treatments, or claim to cure diseases. When someone asks medical questions, we direct them to consult their healthcare provider.
Our mission is to honor the sacred relationship between humans and plants. This means respecting both the plants' wisdom AND the legal framework that protects consumers. Compliance isn't a burden—it's how we build trust and create a sustainable, long-term movement for teacher regeneration.
